Raffles Singapore Hotel
If you have the budget for just one indulgence, make it a stay at Raffles Singapore. This 103-suite heritage hotel at Beach Road was declared a national monument by the Singapore government in 1987. At 126 years old, she shines forth with the colonial glory of a grand old dame – without the wrinkles.
Raffles Hotel stands for all the fables of the exotic East,” the playwright Somerset Maugham once wrote. How true. Almost everything – from the antique grandfather clock that stands majestically in the lobby to the ornate wrought-iron portico to the neo-Renaissance architecture – harks back to the 1920s and 1930s heydays when the grand hotel hosted the society’s elite. The hotel houses two wings: Palm Court and Bras Basah – the former was completed in 1894 and the latter in 1904, but their architecture and interior are uniformly old-world. Raffles Hotel is perfect for history buffs who want to soak in Singapore’s colonial past without sacrificing comfort and opulence.
Upon arrival, all guests are welcomed with a glass of Singapore Sling – the iconic pineapple juice cocktail that was developed by a Long Bar bartender before 1915. Thereafter, your butler – one of the privileged few who have dutifully served the crème-de-la-crème of the world’s elite, such as Bill Clinton and the late Michael Jackson – will see to your every whim, including packing, unpacking, pressing and shoe shining.

The Oberoi Lombok
Lombok, the island just to the east of Bali, is undiscovered, unspoiled, and unpopular.
Of course unpopular is often high praise, when it comes to a resort destination — we go on holiday to get away from it all, not to stand in line. And now that we think about it, the reason Lombok is neglected may be its rural quality, the fact that it lacks Bali’s nightclubs and bright lights.
All the better for us, then; instead of hordes of package tourists, the Oberoi Lombok offers a quiet escape to a 24-acre private estate, an utterly quiet and secluded place, and one of the last places in Indonesia for anything resembling romance.
Palm trees and mirror pools set the scene, and the ocean views must be seen to be believed. But the true appeal of this place lies in the private villas, set behind stone walls and beneath thatched roofs, each with the tropical luxury of garden baths, as well as enough privacy to ensure that even shrinking violets will fancy a dip. The superior villas have private swimming pools, and all of the accommodations come in handsome and spare Indonesian style, with teakwood furnishings and modern conveniences.
Service is impressive, and the cuisine is rather extraordinary, whether served in the restaurants or on the beach.
That beach, by the way, is one of the main attractions here, presenting visitors with 550 meters of unspoiled golden sands. There’s no shortage of nature to see on Lombok, from volcanoes and waterfalls to coral reefs — though perhaps the most popular activity is man-made. That would be the Banyan Tree spa, offering the latest in decadent treatments as well as some traditional Javanese specialties, administered in outdoor pavilions in the tropical breeze. You’ll be lucky if you can remember how to spell “Bali” by the time they’re through with you.

The Samaya Villas Bali
In Sanskrit, ‘Samaya’ refers to the inner sanctum of wellbeing and this award-winning luxury resort offers just that on a tranquil stretch of Seminyak beach, blessed with stunning sunsets. The staff offer a warm welcome, and you’ll be incredibly well looked after here.
Across the road in the Royal Courtyard area you’ll find the atmospheric Brasserie, which serves up traditional Indonesian dishes for dinner. Of course, for complete privacy there’s also the option of in-villa dining. Be sure to enjoy the traditional daily afternoon tea.

Uma by Como Ubud Resort in Bali
Uma Ubud is a luxury 29 room boutique hotel offering exceptional style on Bali in Indonesia. Uma Ubud is hidden on the fringe of Ubud, a small town and Bali’s cultural hub, overlooking the Tjampuhan Valley.
Not only does Uma Ubud reflect Como Hotels and Resorts’ philosophy of quiet comfort in culture-rich locations; this inland retreat is also dedicated to health, adventure and spiritual exploration.
The resort feels like a rural home in the hills with narrow paths leading between rooms and suites and their small, walled tropical gardens.
The 25-metre pool is surrounded by immaculate green lawns and is shaded by an assortment of monkey-inhabited tropical trees.

Hej,
Sista J
Najs 🙂
